the Chamber of Reflection · effective November 1, 2026
Your chamber is yours. What you write, the photos and sounds you add, and the wants you say stay on your phone. We don't run a server that receives them, and we can't read them. This page explains everything that happens to your data.
What stays on your device
- Everything you write: your story, the wants you say in it, the words you impress, and every earlier version of them. It is stored only on your device, in the app's own storage.
- Photos, video and audio you capture in the app. They are saved only on your device. The camera and microphone open only when you tap them.
- Your voice, turned into words. When you speak into the Chamber, the words are worked out on your device by Apple's speech recognition. The recording isn't sent to us or to anyone else.
- Links you send to the Chamber from other apps through the share sheet. They are stored on your device and added to your story.
- A random identifier, created the first time you open the app. It keeps your data organised on your own device and is never sent to us or anyone else.
We don't sync your chamber or back it up anywhere. If your phone makes backups through Apple's iCloud Backup or to a computer, the app's data is included like any other app's. Those backups are Apple's and yours, and we can't access them.
Apple Watch
Portal, the Chamber's Apple Watch app, listens only after you double-tap it. What you say goes straight from your watch to the Chamber on your paired iPhone over Apple's own watch-to-phone connection, where it is turned into words on your phone. It never passes through us or any server of ours. If your phone isn't in reach, the recording waits on your watch until it can be sent.
Where you are
The Chamber does not use your location.
When the Chamber reaches the internet
- Link previews. When a link is in your story, such as a YouTube or TikTok link, your device may fetch that page's title and image directly from the site it points to, so the link can show a preview. The request goes from your device to that website, not to us, and it contains only the link.
- Purchases. Your subscription is handled entirely by Apple through the App Store. We never receive your payment details. The app asks Apple whether your subscription is active.
- Sharing out. When you share something from the Chamber to another app, such as ChatGPT, Messages or Discord, it goes only where you send it, through Apple's share sheet. We never see it.
Nothing else you write, capture or say is sent anywhere.
Notifications
With your permission, the Chamber shows a notification on your device after you send it something from another app, inviting you to write about it. These notifications are created on your device. We don't send push notifications, and your content never passes through a notification server. You can turn them off in Settings → Notifications → the Chamber.
What we don't do
- No advertising, and no tracking across apps or websites.
- No analytics or crash-reporting services.
- No selling or sharing your data with anyone, because we never have it.
- No accounts. You don't sign up or sign in to use the Chamber.
Deleting your data
Deleting the app permanently deletes your chamber, including everything described above. We don't have a copy to delete, because we never received one. Backups you or Apple keep are controlled in your device's settings.
Children
The Chamber isn't directed at children under 13, and we don't knowingly collect anything from anyone. Nothing leaves the device.
Changes
If what leaves your device ever changes, for example an assistant you can summon, syncing between your devices, or sharing with friends, this page will change before that feature ships, and the change will say exactly what is sent, where, and why. The date at the top tells you when the page last changed.
